Leaning Tower of Pisa

Italy in June is pure magic, and I had the pleasure of spending a month soaking in its rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable food. My journey began in Milan and took me through Venice, Cinque Terre, the Amalfi Coast, and Napoli. Traveling by rail, car, and train, I explored some of Italy’s most iconic destinations, with every stop offering something new and wonderful.

Milan: Fashion Meets History

Milan, the fashion capital, was the perfect starting point. Beyond its glamorous stores, Milan’s history is everywhere. The Duomo di Milano, with its stunning gothic architecture, left me in awe, especially after climbing to the rooftop for panoramic views. I also visited the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world’s oldest shopping malls, where I enjoyed a refreshing Aperol Spritz while people-watching.A highlight was seeing Da Vinci’s Last Supper, a must-see for art lovers. Of course, Milanese cuisine was a treat—especially risotto alla Milanese, a local specialty.

Verona: City of Romance

Next, I headed to Verona, home to Juliet’s Balcony, a symbol of romance. The Arena di Verona, an ancient Roman amphitheater, is a fantastic spot for history and opera lovers alike. The Piazza delle Erbe and the charming streets along the Adige River made strolling around this city a joy.V

.Venice: The Floating City

Venice is exactly as magical as people say. I wandered through the narrow streets, visited St. Mark’s Basilica, and admired the iconic Rialto Bridge. Taking a gondola ride through the Grand Canal was a surreal experience, especially during sunset.Venetian food didn’t disappoint either, with fresh seafood cicchetti at a bacaro and a spritz in Piazza San Marco to cap off the day.

Cinque Terre: Coastal Paradise

After Venice, I traveled by car to Cinque Terre, a collection of five seaside villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Hiking between the villages offered breathtaking views of the sea and cliffs. Each village had its own charm, but the fresh seafood and pesto pasta in Monterosso were highlights of the trip.Cinque Terre’s laid-back vibe made it the perfect spot to relax, surrounded by the beauty of the Italian coast.

Amalfi Coast: A Dreamy Drive From Cinque Terre

I drove to the Amalfi Coast, a winding road with stunning cliff side views. This was the most beautiful stop in my Italian travels! I stayed in Positano, known for its colorful buildings cascading down to the sea. Exploring nearby towns like Amalfi, Ravello, and Praiano was a delight, with each town offering its own unique beauty. The Amalfi Coast’s food was phenomenal—limoncello, fresh seafood, and delizie al limone, a lemony dessert, were my go-to treats.

Pisa: A Quick Stop for an Icon

On my way south, I made a quick stop in Pisa to see the famous Leaning Tower. After snapping the obligatory "holding up the tower" photo, I took some time to explore the Piazza dei Miracoli, which includes the stunning Cathedral of Pisa and the Baptistery.

Napoli: The Soul of Southern Italy

My final stop was Napoli, a vibrant city full of energy. Known as the birthplace of pizza, Napoli’s food scene is unbeatable. Eating a pizza margherita at one of the city’s legendary pizzerias was a dream come true. I also explored the ruins of Pompeii and admired the views of Mount Vesuvius along the Lungomare. Napoli’s raw, authentic vibe made it a fitting end to my Italian journey. Each destination along the way had its own charm, but Napoli’s mix of history, culture, and incredible food was a highlight.

Final Thoughts

This month-long adventure through Italy gave me a taste of the country’s incredible diversity. From Milan’s fashion-forward streets to the sun-drenched shores of the Amalfi Coast, every destination offered something special. Traveling by rail and car allowed me to experience Italy in a way that felt authentic and flexible. I can’t wait to return and explore even more of this beautiful country.
