The Fairytale of Neuschwanstein Castle!

The adventure began as the plane touched down at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, and the excitement was palpable. Stepping out into Germany's crisp, invigorating air, I could feel the city's energy blending history with modernity.

With its dynamic spirit and storied past, Berlin was our first destination. Our days in Berlin were a mix of cultural immersion and exploration. We started at the Brandenburg Gate, an iconic symbol of reunification, standing tall as a testament to Berlin's resilience. Wandering down Unter den Linden, the grand boulevard, we admired the historic architecture. We stopped by the Reichstag Building, where the glass dome offered a panoramic view of the city’s evolving skyline. The Berlin Wall Memorial was a somber yet enlightening experience. Walking along the preserved stretch of the Wall and visiting the Documentation Center provided a deep understanding of the city’s divided past. We also explored the East Side Gallery, where colorful murals and graffiti cover the last remaining sections of the Wall, each telling its story of hope and freedom.

A day trip took us to Potsdam, just a short train ride away. The regal Sanssouci Palace, with its rococo splendor and beautiful gardens, was a highlight. Strolling through the meticulously maintained grounds felt like stepping into a fairytale. The trip also included a taste of Germany’s renowned culinary delights. In a traditional Berlin beer garden, we indulged in hearty plates of schnitzel and bratwurst, accompanied by refreshing pints of local beer. The savory flavors were complemented by warm, friendly service.

Leaving Berlin, we traveled south to Munich, where the Bavarian charm was irresistible. The Marienplatz, with its impressive Glockenspiel, offered a glimpse into Munich's vibrant life. We spent an afternoon exploring the Nymphenburg Palace, marveling at its opulent rooms and expansive parklands. No visit to Munich would be complete without a stop at the Hofbräuhaus. The lively atmosphere, traditional Bavarian music, and delicious pretzels made for an unforgettable evening. We also drove to the nearby Neuschwanstein Castle, perched high in the Alps. The fairy-tale castle was everything we had imagined with its stunning views and ornate interiors.

The journey ended with a visit to the Black Forest region, where nature took center stage. We hiked through the dense, enchanting woods, discovering charming villages and picturesque landscapes. The local cuckoo clocks and hearty Black Forest cake were delightful reminders of the region's rich traditions.

Germany had left a lasting impression as we wrapped up our trip and prepared for departure. The blend of historical depth, cultural vibrancy, and natural beauty made the journey memorable. Each city and region offered its own unique experience, weaving together a tapestry of unforgettable moments.

This is one of many journeys I took in Germany while I lived there for 4 years.  I will always remember the beauty, history, and culture I experienced.
