I have been traveling solo since the summer of 2017, it was the scariest thing I had ever done. Yet, at the same time, the most liberating. When I decided at the age of 31, to throw caution to the wind and go half way across the world from Fargo, ...

Eiffel Tower

It was the summer of 2019. It was my 33rd birthday. It was the first birthday without my beloved great grandmother and great great aunt. They meant everything to me. So to go on this trip was literally a breath of fresh air. I had wanted to go to Paris since I was a kid. I don't know if it was the Eiffel Tower or Pepe Le Pew on my television, but I had to go. I bought my tickets and six months later I was sitting in the airplane wanting to take off.

When. I arrived it was to my great happiness that my hotel which was an old convent from the 18th century was a stones throw away from the world monument. I went to sleep that night amazed. Yet, what amazed me more was the Eiffel Tower at night. It sparkled, which added even more magic.

The next few days were filled with lots of croissants and macaroons. I dared try escargot, not bad but salty and slimy. Ha!!! Everything was really good and I definitely gained about 5 pounds. But hey when in Paris. The only downside was the smell. Paris has a really strange odor at certain times of the day, but it's easy to get passed. I grew up in Chicago so a whiff didn't bother me.

The most exciting thing happened on my birthday. I went on a lunch cruise around the Seine River. We saw sites such a as Notre Dame Cathedral, it was under construction from the fire but still good to see. As I watched the people bustling by, I couldn't help but see myself living here. Although a dream none the less, this is a city I can get lost in, which I did. (I almost missed the boat!) I see myself visiting for years to come. Highly recommended.
