Mexico is one of the greatest destinations in the entire world. Steeped with history and rich with culture, from the moment you arrive in Mexico, you instantly feel transported to that of a different era and lifestyle. From jungles to beaches, mega resorts to boutique hotels, there is something for everyone. However, in the past few years, the news has shifted in regards to the popular tourist destination.


While there is no question that Mexico can be dangerous, with the right knowledge and smart frame of mind, traveling in the country is no more dangerous than at home. Read on to get the best tips to have a safe vacation in Mexico!


 


1. Do not drink the tap water under any circumstances (stick to bottled water)


2. Do not consume raw/ undercooked meat (stick to medium +)


3. Do not venture leave resort premises (unless in a well populated tourist area)


4. Only sign-up for travel agent or resort recommended tours (or off a reputable site)


5. Make sure you see the bartender pour your drink (especially if off resort grounds)


6. Never get in an unmarked taxi (take resort or travel agent approved transportation)


7. Ignore the vendors by keeping your head down when exiting Cancun Airport (CUN)


8. Never engage with people selling drugs or suspicious items (you will be in danger)


9. Only choose resorts with four star rating or higher (read the reviews before you go)


10. Notify the United States Embassy before you go (sign up for the STEP program)
