Destination Wedding Travel Agent Expert

Planning a destination wedding can be daunting, but the reward is a memory of a lifetime. Each location offers its own pros and cons. You'll need to consider your guest list, the cost, and travel time. Many couples choose to have two weddings: a destination ceremony for those who can travel and a more informal celebration or dinner back home. This approach can keep costs down since you avoid the "wedding tax" often associated with traditional wedding venues. Here are a few of my most memorable destination wedding experiences:

Cape Town, South Africa - Africa is a vast continent, and Cape Town, located at its southern tip, reflects that. The 30+ hour flight from the US might seem daunting, but once you arrive, you'll understand why the couple chose this breathtaking location. Our lodging was a luxurious oceanfront house with a pool and cleaning service. Leading up to the wedding, we explored the vibrant local farmer's markets, where fresh produce was a fraction of the price back home. We enjoyed amazing bread with creamy local butter and fresh eggs for breakfast, and delectable lamb chops with bone marrow for dinner. South African wines are renowned for their quality and affordability. One morning, we started with delicious coffee at a cafe, or opted for a rooibos tea latte with almond cake. The many stunning beaches offered opportunities to see fascinating fish and mini-ecosystems in the rock pools. Lunch could be a casual yet delicious corona chicken salad sandwich wrap. A highlight was visiting the Cape of Good Hope to witness the penguin colony. The bride and groom chose a stunning estate with fifteen rooms, a private chef, and a barista for their wedding venue. The cost was a fraction of what it would have been in the US.

Colorado wedding caters to a more relaxed and adventurous crowd. Festivities often last multiple days and include activities like mountain biking, hiking, white-water rafting, and river floating. Many couples choose to rent large houses in mountain towns like Gunnison or Salida that can sleep 20+ people, with additional land where guests can camp. The focus is on outdoor activities, and the weddings tend to be low-key with informal attire.

English countryside wedding offers a fairytale-like experience. I once helped organize a wedding in Hertfordshire, just an hour by train from London. The bride and groom chose a charming barn wedding at the groom's family farm, with hay bales for seating, creating a rustic chic atmosphere. There was plenty of champagne, wine, beer, and whiskey, with champagne being chilled in a unique way – the bathtub! The food was a delicious roasted whole pig with a variety of cheeses imported from Italy. Instead of traditional wedding cake, they opted for a fun bonfire with s'mores. Local entertainment kept the party going all night. The entire village was invited to share in the celebration. Pre-wedding activities included a day trip to Cambridge, where guests could try their hand at punting (the English version of a gondola ride) – which is more challenging than it looks! Of course, no visit to England is complete without experiencing a local pub and some warm cask ale.

Hong Kong is a vibrant city with a thriving food, shopping, and nightlife scene. A Chinese wedding is an extravagant treat for both the eyes and the stomach. A typical Chinese wedding banquet features 10 or more courses served family-style. Guests are seated at large tables, and waiters bring out each dish for everyone to share. The sequence of dishes often starts with lighter appetizers, then progresses to heartier entrees like fried rice and noodles, along with various seafood options including fish, lobster, shellfish, and abalone. If you have dietary restrictions, especially seafood allergies, be aware that these dishes are a significant part of the traditional menu. In addition to the endless food, the bride often changes into multiple stunning outfits throughout the evening. Pre- or post-wedding activities might include a visit to Macau for its architectural sights and exciting casinos.

There's no single "right" answer for a destination wedding – everyone's taste is different, and that's a great thing! Remember, the most important thing is to have fun with the planning process.

Planning a wedding can be stressful, and doing it far away can add to that, but that's where I come in to help. Your destination wedding should be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so don't compromise on your dream!

Trip for seniors
One of the things I appreciated most was Areeya's understanding of the needs of senior travelers. She booked accommodations with comfortable beds, easily accessible bathrooms, and elevators where needed. Sightseeings were carefully planned to avoid strenuous activities and included ample rest breaks. This level of attentiveness made the entire trip a joy, allowing me to fully enjoy without any worries.

Very Smooth Trip
I asked Areeya to help me plan a trip to LA for a medical procedure. She found us a perfect lodging just 5 mins from the hospital and closed to pharmacies and groceries stores. She anticipated our needs and also convinced me to get a direct flight on the way back home considering how I would be feeling. If you're looking for a detail-oriented and friendly agent who truly cares, look no further!

Epic road trip
Areeya presented us with a perfect road trip plan that allowed us to see both the North and South islands of New Zealand. It was no problem getting the rental car and checking in to lodging. It was the trip we had dreamed of. Thanks to Areeya.

Family trip
We're a family of four who wanted to visit Miami for the first time. Areeya helped us found a perfect house with pool that was not far from South Beach. It was a good base for our trip. She also booked us the air boat tour to the Everglades and a side trip to Key West. We got to see a lot in a week. She was easy to work with and a good listener as well as a fast worker.
