I have always had a love for travel, culture, and history. I can remember, I was always planning trips with a road map, encyclopedia, and travel books. I then started researching excursions using the internet. My first trip I did was we drove from North Idaho through Washington, Oregon, and ended in Santa Cruz, Calif. Some of my favorite trips I have planned include Westward expansion trips starting in St. Louis and traversing through the western US, memorable trips to the French Quarter of New Orleans and concluding with an alligator visit! I put my heart into planning each and every trip; romantic cruises in Key Largo, cultural excursions in Belize, and helping people find those rare, out of the way parks and incredible points of interest that most people miss or have never heard of. I delight in researching, learning, and discovering this planet we call home. The world really is a magical, beautiful, and amazing place, and I am excited to help you enjoy and explore it!!

Night Time is the Right Time on Beale Street

Do you love music, history and fantastic food?  Looking for an affordable, exciting vacation option?  Memphis Tennessee may be your dream come true!  Walk through unique musical attractions like Graceland and the Rock and Soul Museum.  Discover the intricacies of steamships and the Mississippi River at Mud Island.  Revisit the amazing accomplishments of our nation's civil rights leaders at the National Civil Rights Museum.  Experience explosions of flavor at Memphis Style BBQ and Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken.   I would love to plan your trip to Memphis, Tennessee vacation so you can experience all that Memphis has to offer.

Here are my personal 10 Memphis must-do, must-eat, must-see attractions.

For the Music Lovers: 

1.Beale Street - No trip to Memphis can exclude a trip down Beale St. this Iconic and World known street is home to live music, street performers, unique stores, and world class food and drinks. This is the street that created the “Memphis Blues” a type of blues that incorporated the electric guitar, drums, and a kind of singing dialogue. Many great blues, jazz, soul, and rock n roll artists started out on Beale St both playing and then later recording at Sun Studio. 

2.Graceland - Was purchased by Elvis Presley in 1957 when he was 22 years old. Consisting of over 13 acres and a mansion it would be a constant in the life of Elvis Presley as well as his family and friends. 

3.Sun Studio - Visit the “Birthplace of Rock n Roll”! Walking into Sun Studio is like being transported to the 1950’s and experiencing the live recordings of some of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Elvis Presley, BB King, Howlin Wolf, Johnny Cash, Ike Turner, they all recorded in this very building.  You can feel their steps as you walk through this Museum. You are even able to stay after and record your own hits after hours. One day maybe you will be another star that has recorded at the legendary Sun Studio.

4.Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum - Follow the history of Rock ‘n’ Roll and soul music from its origins in the early 1930’3 through to the 1970’s with this unique collection that follows the music from its rural beginnings to its emergence into Memphis and beyond. Great for both adults and children it really is a great experience.

For the History Lovers:  

5.National Civil Rights Museum and the Lorraine Motel - Established in 1991 at the site where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, it is a must experience for anyone interested in our country's long path forward. It features numerous hands-on exhibits, films, and oral recordings that lead you down the history of the civil rights movement. Starting with slavery, taking you through the years with Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights marches, boycotts, and sit ins, and ending with a video on the human rights movements around the world.

6.Mud island  - Located at the downtown riverfront lies Mud Island. A must see and do for any family vacation. Ride a monorail over a Mississippi River inlet, then upon descending enter an amazing hands on museum complete with an ironclad steamship that shoots cannons. If that wasn’t cool enough after the museum you are then greeted  with a replica of the mighty Mississippi River complete with water for the kids to learn, play, and explore. Come with changes of clothing, snacks for the kids, and water bottles.

For Family Fun:

7.Shelby Farms - spanning 4,500 acres and boasting trails, fishing, playgrounds, and even a herd of buffalo, it really is a one of a kind experience. Enjoy a picnic, a relaxing bike ride, or just a fun break for the kids to run and play. It is a beautiful place right in Memphis.

8.Memphis Grizzlies game - Starting as an expansion into Canada by the NBA in the 1990’s the Vancouver Grizzlies relocated to Memphis in 2001 and became the Memphis Grizzlies. They have made it to the playoffs 12 times since being in Memphis. Although they have not yet won a championship (there is always next season), they are still a great team to follow and experience first hand at one of their home games.

For Fabulous Food:  

9.Memphis style bbq - There is no trip to Memphis that should not leave you sampling the unique Memphis flavor bbq. Whether it is the famous BBQ nachos at Central BBQ or Rendezvous’s famous dry rubbed ribs you will not leave disappointed or hungry.

10.Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken - Starting in Mason, Tennessee in the 1970’s it was brought to Memphis in 2001 and opened the first of soon to be many franchises. Serving hot and spicy fried chicken, fried okra, coleslaw, and mac n cheese it is a flavor that can't be beat and has a following that is crossing the country with franchises opening up.

As you can see Memphis is a fun destination for everyone be it families, couples, or solo. It would be my pleasure to plan you a wonderful and extraordinary  Memphis, Tennessee vacation.
