Lecco Lake

This was my first time visiting Italy in the winter and I loved it! It wasn't crowded and weather was pleasant. I was visiting my dear friend who lives close to Milan and Como. We met 7 years ago on the lake so it is very special to us! She drove us to Lake Como and we enjoyed sitting outside. She and her son had a Cioccolato Caldo(hot chocolate) and I sipped on a nice Amarone, my favorite Northern Italian red wine. We nibbled on local cheese and charcuterie with focaccia bread. As the sun set across the lake I exhaled and settled into this stunning view. All of my troubles just melted away! The raw beauty of this area will take your breathe away. There are some wonderful little shops in Como and quaint restaurants. I got settled into the Hilton Hotel at Como and my view was spectacular! The staff was so attentive and helpful. It was easy to get around. We went on numerous excursions to nearby Lecco (another beautiful lake), Monza, Pavia and Inverigo. There are many historical buildings, cathedrals to see. Monza is where the Grand Prix goes through and has incredible shopping. Restaurants are top notch. Try the Pizzoccheri alla Valtellinese, famous pasta dish or be adventurous and try the polenta balota which are both very popular local dishes in Lombady region. Definitely warms you up on a chilly day! Have a nice glass of Barbera d'alba with either and you will be so glad you did. After that I went to Lugano Lake which felt like Como on steroids! This lake the largest one I saw. Pretty unforgettable. I stayed at the Villa Principe Leopoldo. Get a room facing the lake and you won't want to leave! They have a very elegant restaurant that has a breathtaking view of Lugano Lake. I finished my trip in Milan visiting the Duomo and all the museums. Milan is one of the fashion capitals of Europe so it has many designer shops. Before you leave you must have some gelato which is Italian ice cream. So many delicious flavors to choose from!
