Sunset from Angels Landing

One of the most beautiful times of the year in the American Southwest is the month of October, and this is when I visited Zion National Park. During this time of the year, the days are sunny and in the 70s and 80s while the nights are cool and refreshing in the 60s.

There are only a few things you can do on an American Southwest adventure that will compare to eBiking down Zion’s Scenic Drive after doing Angels Landing for sunset. Being a sunset canyon, the best view that that you can hope to see is going to be sunset at Angels Landing, right after it dips behind the canyon walls.

I planned ahead for this experience by renting eBikes that would serve as my transportation to and from the trailhead which is about 6+ miles from the cute little town of Springdale where I stayed. By having eBikes, I didn’t have to rely on the free shuttle service that retires around sunset.

Hiking up Angels Landing was a workout itself, but the views that await at the peak are more than enough to justify the strenuous hike. I soon learned that a bonus perk of going up to Angels Landing for sunset is that you end up having the entire overlook to yourself, since almost everyone who explores Zion will rely on the free shuttle and thus make their way back down before the shuttle retires for the night.

It was quite nice to get there about 15 mins before the sun started to set, lay out a blanket, and just enjoy a peaceful and scenic evening with some snacks. I even brought headlamps because I had plans to check out the Milky Way from the top, and wow! It was hands down one of the best stargazing I’ve done in my life.

From tons of different constellations to many shooting stars, I found myself watching thousands of stars for couple of hours that night. Once I felt that it was time to head down, the headlamps provided a bright and clear path all the way back to where the eBikes were at the start of the trailhead.

And with the road void of shuttles and cars, I rode back down under the Milky Way back to Springdale for the night!

And this is definitely what I will remember as the coolest experience I had in America’s Southwest.
