Charleston in August is an interesting experience—it's hot and humid, but the charm of the city still shines through. Here’s a breakdown of my recent visit:

Shops: Charleston's shopping scene is fantastic, even in the heat. The historic district is full of charming boutiques and specialty stores. King Street is a highlight, offering a mix of high-end retailers and unique local shops. In August, the heat might make browsing a bit of a sweat, but many shops have air conditioning, which is a welcome relief.

Lunch at The Watch: The Watch Rooftop Kitchen & Spirits, located at The Restoration Hotel, offers stunning views of the city. It’s a great spot to enjoy a meal, with a menu that blends Southern comfort with a modern twist. The outdoor seating area can be particularly delightful, though in August, you might prefer to sit inside where it’s cooler. The food is generally well-regarded, and it’s a good place to relax and take in the sights.

Staying at The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel: The Mills House is a classic Charleston stay with its historic charm and modern amenities. The location is central, making it easy to explore the city. The hotel’s exterior is iconic, and the interior offers a blend of traditional and contemporary decor. The pool area can be a great escape from the heat. Just be prepared for the high humidity, which is typical for Charleston in August.
