The province is known for its scenic coastline, as well as its many small towns and villages. Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia, is a popular tourist destination. Other popular places to visit in Nova Scotia include Cape Breton Island, Peggy's Cove, and the Bay of Fundy. Nova Scotia is the Latin translation for New Scotland. Most of the inhabitants speak English and number around 969,385 people, according to the 2021 census. Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, is a beautiful seaside town with a rich history. The town is located on the Halifax Harbour, and is home to the Halifax Citadel, a national historic site. The citadel was built in the 18th century to protect the town from attack, and today it is a popular tourist attraction.  Halifax is also home to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which houses exhibits that detail the city’s seaside experiences. One of these displays showcases Halifax’s role in the Titanic disaster. The exhibit, which highlights the ship's creation and its end, shows how ship crews braved terrible weather conditions to recover the people who perished during the event. The ship sank on April 15, 1912. Nova Scotia's South Shore is a place of natural beauty. The rocky coastline, sandy beaches and towering cliffs make it a popular destination for tourists.
