Kentucky Derby Travel Agent Expert

I love being a travel agent specialist for the Kentucky Derby - the most famous thoroughbred horse race event in the world. If you want to attend the Derby, you’ll need to go through a travel agent specialist, as you’ll need to plan in advance and follow a race day itinerary. This is difficult to do if you don’t have someone who is familiar with this once-in-a-lifetime event. You’ll want to schedule your vacation at the end of April or in early May, depending on what festivities you wish to attend. The annual horse race, held at Churchill Downs in Louisville. is classified as a Grade I stakes race for thoroughbreds that are 3 years old. The distance of this super short two-minute sporting event is one and a quarter miles around the track.  In fact, the race is considered the most exciting short sporting event in the world. Nothing can compare to this high stakes horse race. Naturally, it’s always fun to know some fun trivia about the Derby, all which adds to the excitement and interest of the festivities. Typically, horse races feature about 8 horses. However, the Derby is different, as it has a far broader field. Up to 20 horses are entered at Derby time each year.  The first official Kentucky Derby took place in 1875 with the first winner being Aristides - crossing the finish line by two lengths. Attendees, at the time, numbered around 10,000. The first race, which was run on a 1.5-mile dirt track, featured 15 horses. Oliver Lewis was the first winning jockey. The grand event, normally scheduled for the first Saturday in May, is part of the Triple Crown Series. The other two races are the Preakness Stakes, which takes place in the middle part of May, and the Belmont Stakes, which is held in early June. Therefore, the Kentucky Derby is part of America’s horse racing Triple Crown. You’ll never know how the race will turn out at the Kentucky Derby. Some horses can surprise thoroughbred horse racing fans. For example, this was surely the case in 1913. At that time a horse, Donerail, was considered a longshot bet - with the odds placed against him at 91-1. However, the horse blazed across the finish line in 2 minutes, with a fraction of a second to spare.  Trained and owned by Tom P. Hayes, the colt paid out well for anyone who placed a bet on him that year. Gamblers realized a $182.90 return on a $2.00 bet. The total Derby purse that year was $6,600. Naturally, you’ll want to imbibe at the Derby, or enjoy a mint julep, which is the horse race’s traditional drink. Derby-goers drink about 120,000 mint juleps each year. During Derby Day, you can watch horse races throughout the day. However, the real Derby is presented in the evening. Before the event, “My Old Kentucky Home” is sung and the champagne spray in the winner’s circle happens about 7:15 pm. You’ll watch the most exciting 2 minutes in sports just before 7:00 pm. Again, you cannot take part in the event and get advanced tickets easily without working with a travel agent professional.
