Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to put on your best fascinators and derby hats because the Belmont Stakes is just around the corner! This highly anticipated event not only promises an exciting day of horse racing but also a chance to indulge in some delectable brunch treats.  But with so many options available, where do you even begin? Look no further because I’m a travel agent specialist for the Belmont Stakes. So, I have compiled some comprehensive information - information that will take you from betting on the races to sipping mimosas during brunch.  So take a sip of a mint julep (or two) and let's begin planning your adventure now. The Belmont Stakes is a horse race that is held annually in Belmont, New York. It is the third and final leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, and is considered to be one of the most prestigious races in the world. The Belmont Stakes was first run in 1867, and has been held at Belmont Park since 1905. The race is open to three-year-old thoroughbreds who have already won either the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes.  A win at the Belmont Stakes secures the Triple Crown for a horse, and this has only been achieved 11 times in history. The Grade 1 stakes horse race is normally held on June 10 annually. It represents the longest and oldest of the three classic Triple Crown series. The Belmont Stakes is run over a distance of 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers), again, making it the longest of the three Triple Crown races. The race attracts large crowds each year, and is often referred to as "The Test of the Champion".  Due to its length, the Belmont Stakes can be a challenging race for horses. In recent years, however, there have been some exciting finishes, with several horses winning by narrow margins. The race predates the running of the Kentucky Derby by nine years and the Preakness by seven years. It is named for the financier, August Belmont, who funded the event. In 1867, the race spanned 1 5/8 miles, with the established 1.5-mile distance set in 1927.  The sinner of the first rate was a filly named Ruthless. She is only one of three fillies, in history, to have won the race. Also the race was originally run clockwise until 1921. At that time, race officials changed the direction to counter-clockwise, or the direction that most American races are run. Whether you’re a seasoned horse racing fan or you want to experience a different way to spend your time, keep on reading. You can go to a brick-and-mortar casino or racetrack, or place a bet online through an online sportsbook. If you opt to visit a brick-and-mortar establishment, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, you'll need to bring identification with you in order to prove that you're of legal gambling age.  Second, make sure you familiarize yourself with the betting process before placing any wagers - otherwise, you may end up making some costly mistakes. Online sportsbooks are a great option for those who want to place bets on the Belmont Stakes from the comfort of their own home. There are many reputable sportsbooks out there that offer competitive odds and lines on horse racing events.  Plus, signing up for an account is usually quick and easy. Just be sure to do your research when making a choice, as not all sportsbooks are created equal. What to Wear to the Races For ladies, a summer dress or skirt is always a winner. If it’s a particularly hot day, go for something light and airy. A pair of sunglasses and a cute hat will protect you from the elements and add a touch of glamor. Wedges are a good choice of footwear as they won’t sink into the grass.  For men, chinos or linen trousers are a good option. They’re comfortable and smart without being too formal. A polo shirt or button-down shirt will keep you cool and fresh throughout the day. Add a blazer if you want to dress things up a bit. Finish the look with loafers or boat shoes – no one wants to ruin their pristine shoes. When it comes to brunch, there are plenty of great options near The Belmont Stakes. For a classic American brunch, head to Jackson Hole Burgers. This restaurant is a local favorite and serves up memorable burgers. For at-the-track dining, the New York Racing Association has partnered with Levy to provide world-class food and drink options at the park. Whether you’re seeking concession food or wish to eat in private club spaces like the Garden Terrace Dining Room, you’ll truly enjoy the beverages and cuisine.  If you're looking for something a little more upscale nearby, you might check out The River Café. This restaurant offers stunning views of Manhattan and serves up creative dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.  Or, if you're in the mood for something lighter, grab a bagel from Absolute Bagels - bare-bones eatery on Broadway in New York. From learning about betting to finding the best place for brunch, I’ll make sure your trip is a “lucky” journey.
