Jackson Hole offers outdoor and western adventures like no place else in the U.S.  It is also home to beautiful national parks and is the base for three major ski areas - Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Grand Targhee Resort, and the Snow King Resort. It also has a superb art following. The town's National Museum of Wildlife Art showcases the works of renowned artists, Georgia O'Keeffe and Andy Warhol. If you look north, you will see the peaks of Grand Teton National Park and expansive Yellowstone National Park. The town is one of extremes with respect to development and weather. But everything has turned out for the best, thanks to time and planning. For example, the first dude ranch, the JY Ranch, opened in 1908, and the Bar B C was founded in 1911. There was also a horse racing track and rodeo, which sprang up near Taggart Lake. Other developments included cabins, gas stations, and dance halls, near Jenny Lake, some of which residents feared might damage the valley's natural charm and character. In response, Grand Teton National Park was created in 1929. Because of the work of a man named Horace Albright, John D. Rockefeller secretly purchased 35,000 acres and incorporated it into Grand Teton National Park during that time. The important event preserved the area's elk, which had been negatively affected by sprawling developments. This led residents to support the National Elk Refuge in the early twentieth century. The state's first ski area, or the Snow King Resort, was established in 1939 and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opened for skiing in 1965.  After the Second World War, families came to Jackson Hole to sight-see by car, which led to the building of motor court hotels. People found out that Jackson Hole  offered sight-seeing as well as activities, such as fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, river boating, and rafting.  Therefore, Jackson Hole has had to balance its plans for development with the weather, economic activities, such as ranching, and its tourist activities, such as skiing. Whether you want to experience life on a dude ranch, enjoy time at a resort, ski, play golf, or enjoy a more relaxed pace, Jackson Hole offers a place and activity. As your travel agent specialist for Jackson Hole, I recommend traveling in April or May or from September to October, during the more temperate times of the year. However, if you like to ski, visit the town when it gets colder and the snow is abundant.
